To do this, they are providing free gun locks through a program sponsored by The Safe Kids Coalition of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. The sheriff's department also wants to remind gun owners that 40 percent of accidental shootings occur in the homes, and that they should store their guns unloaded and keep them separate from ammunition. Anyone interested should contact Sgt. Skip Shervington, Cupertino community resource officer at 408.777.3177 or email skips@cupertino.org.
