Sheriff sponsoring gun lock program
Public safety has been on the minds of many in the wake of the recent Sept. 11 tragedy, and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office wants to help provide safety within residents' homes. To do this, they are providing free gun locks through a program sponsored by The Safe Kids Coalition of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. The sheriff's department also wants to remind gun owners that 40 percent of accidental shootings occur in the homes, and that they should store their guns unloaded and keep them separate from ammunition. Anyone interested should contact Sgt. Skip Shervington, Cupertino community resource officer at 408.777.3177 or email skips@cupertino.org.
Sheriff encourages neighborhood watch
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office wants to inform residents about neighborhood
watch group programs. There are many new residents in Cupertino, and volunteers from the Sheriff's Office are contacting past participants to update block rosters and offer assistance in hosting meetings. Participants will learn how to protect their neighborhood by identifying and reporting suspicious activity.
For information about this program, contact Sergeant Skip Shervington, Cupertino community resource officer at 408.777.3177 or email skips@cupertino.org.
