Flu shots available Nov. 15 at Quinlan
Getting flu shots this year may help calm some people's nerves due to the threat of anthrax and its flu-like symptoms. The Cupertino Senior Center is sponsoring a flu shot clinic Nov. 15 for seniors age 60 and over at the Quinlan Community Center from 9 a.m. until noon. The center is asking for a $5 donation, and those wanting more information can call 408.777.3150.
County holds quarry meeting Nov. 7
The Santa Clara County Planning Office will have an informational meeting Nov. 7 for residents interested in issues concerning the Stevens Creek Quarry. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Creekside Park Facility at 10455 Miller Ave. in Cupertino.
A status report will be presented covering compliance with the 1996 Stevens Creek Quarry conditional-use permit. Also on the agenda will be a proposed landscaping plan between the quarry entrance and the ancillary gate along Stevens Canyon Road; a video camera installation near the quarry; and hired consultants for air/dust and acoustical measures.

AAPA holds 'Evening with Gus Lee'
The Cupertino-based Asian American Parents Association and the Friends of Calabazas Library are co-sponsoring "An Evening with Gus Lee" at the Calabazas Branch Library at 1230 Blaney Ave. in San Jose on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
Lee is a renowned author of novels that include China Boy andHonor and Duty. He will talk about his life and engage the audience in a discussion on writing, truth and being leaders in our own lives. A book signing and refreshments will follow the discussion. For more information, call 408.996.1536.
California Youth Symphony anniversary performances
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the California Youth Symphony will present two performances. The first is at 2:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at the Flint Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. The second is at 2:30 p.m., Nov. 18 at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, 650 N. Delaware Ave.
The symphony is conducted by Maestro Leo Eylar and will be highlighted by a performance by 17-year-old Adrian Tam, an award-winning pianist. The orchestra consists of 100 young musicians ages 12 to 18. For information, call 650.325.6666.
Bone density testing Nov. 15
