Drop in, hang out at the teen center

The Drop-In Teen Center at the Northwest YMCA is a place where sixth- to eighth-graders can go after school to study, play sports, surf the Web or just "hang out." A wide variety of activities are offered daily, and special events are held throughout each month.

The center's hours are Monday through Friday, 3-7 p.m.

The drop-in fee is $3 daily, or $150 annually. Transportation is offered for schools in Cupertino and Sunnyvale for $40 per month.

Historical Society hosts author

As part of the Cupertino Historical Society's ongoing programs about China and the Chinese in this area, Connie Young Yu will speak at the Historical Society membership meeting Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cupertino Room of the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road.

Yu, a third-generation Californian, has authored several articles and recently contributed to Making Waves, an anthology of writings by Asian American women.

Citizen of the Year banquet sold out

The Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year banquet scheduled for Nov. 15 is sold out, and a waiting list is building up. Organizers are asking anyone who has tickets but does not plan to attend to call Linda Walker at 252-1288 for a refund. Their place at the table will be given to the next person on the list.

Lions offer all the crab you can eat

Cupertino's De Anza Lions Club and the Sunnyvale Sunrise Rotary Club will hold the second annual all-you-can-eat Christmas Charity Crab Feed Dec. 13 at the Santa Clara Valley Blind Center, 101 N. Bascom Ave., San Jose. Tickets can be purchased from club members for $25.

Make your voice heard in Chorale

The Valley Chorale is auditioning singers for baritone and bass sections. There is also an opening for a singer/pianist for accompanist duties in rehearsal and concert. The chorale is looking for blending voices with choral experience. Music, including classics, pops and musical theater, will soon go into production for the spring season.

The chorale rehearses Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in Raynor Auditorium, 1515 Partridge Ave. Sunnyvale. For more information call 732-2588

New mayor to be honored at dinner

The public is invited to attend an inaugural dinner for Cupertino's next mayor, Michael Chang, at a dinner hosted by De Anza College Dec. 11.

Chang, who teaches Asian-American studies at the college, becomes Cupertino's mayor Nov. 20.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Flint Center, and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. in the Hinson Campus Center.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the new Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute, one of several programs of the college's Multicultural/International Center.

The reception costs $15; reception and dinner combined costs $50.

Interns wanted

The Courier is seeking news and photography intern applicants for the fall semester. Ideal candidates are college students working toward undergraduate or advanced journalism degrees with an emphasis on news reporting. Position includes a stipend for academic credit.
