The Cupertino CourierSports BriefsSeason-enders Seasons come to a close this week for the football teams at Cupertino, Lynbrook, Monta Vista and Homestead. And none will be winning seasons. Homestead has a shot at a .500 record in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. The Mustangs will take on Saratoga on Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m., at Los Gatos in a fight for fourth place in the division. The winner will finish league play at 3-3, with the loser ending up 2-4. But even with a win, the best the Mustangs can hope for is a 4-6 season record. The Mustangs improved to 3-6 for the year and 2-3 in league last week with a 19-0 win over Fremont. Monta Vista finished the De Anza season at 1-5 following a 27-6 loss to Saratoga last seek. The Matadors, 2-7 for the year, close out the season in a non-league game against Cupertino. The Pioneers, 1-7 after losing 48-6 to Gunn last week, will host the Matadors on Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. Cupertino ended up 1-4 in the El Camino Division of the SCVAL. Lynbrook, meanwhile, lost 42-8 to Los Altos last Saturday to slip to 1-4 in the El Camino Division and to 1-8 for the year. Walters leads Dons Jodie Walters knocked in a goal and dished off an assist to lead the De Anza Community College women's soccer team to a rousing 3-0 win over Cañada in Coast Conference play last week. Walters, a sophomore and a graduate of Fremont High, scored unassisted, then assisted Michelle Kandah on another goal. The Dons came back with a 3-0 win over Chabot later in the week to run their conference record to 15-1-1 and their season mark to 17-1-1.
