    Gold Star gets gold in competition

    Girls from Cupertino and Sunnyvale finished prominently for the Gold Star Gymnastics Club during a successful month of competition in October.

    Cupertino's Alessia Dorin, Anita Crumlin, Noelle Schulenberg, Diane Gaydos, Molly Denzel, Breanna Adams and Alice Shteyn and Sunnyvale's Brittany Skinner, Kellie Osuga and Jenny Knall helped Gold Star to wins in local competition, as well as in action in San Bruno and Emeryville.

    Michelle Ho and Lauren Jow tied for first in the all-around in the 10-11 age group at a local Level 5 nine-team meet. Crumlin finished first in the vault for Gold Star.

    Schulenberg roared to a 36.1 to finish first in the all-around in the 7-9 age group. She was first in the vault and on the uneven bars, second in the floor exercise and third on the balance beam.

    In Level 6 action the same day, Gaydos was first in the all-around with teammate Raechel Harnoto second. Gaydos finished first on the beam, second on the bars and floor and third in vault.

    Denzel nailed a first in the all-around in Level 4 competition in San Bruno. Denzel was first in the vault with a sizzling 9.875, first on the floor (9.375) and second on both the bars and beam on her way to a 36.425 in the all-around.

    Later in the month, Samantha Hsieh was first in the all-around to lead the Gold Star Level 4 team to victory. Angela Bustamente was second in the all-around with Danielle Sepanek third.

    In Level 5 action, Brittany Skinner tied for first in the all-around and Jenny Knall was third. Adams finished second on the floor on her way to a fourth in the all-around.

    The same day inEmeryville, Denzel won the 7-8 age group all-around to lead a strong showing by the Level 4 squad.

    Michelle Ho finished first on the bars and in the floor exercise on her way to a first in the Level 5 all-around. Schulenberg was second in the vault and floor, ending up second in the all-around.

    Harnoto was second in the Level 6 all-around, and Gaydos was third in the all-around in the 13-and-over age division.
