Montanez wins

What a difference a year makes! Dan Montanez, who won three matches at last year's Cupertino Memorial Tournament before losing in the 152-pound championship bout, left no doubts in this year's event.

The Monta Vista junior, who moved up a weight class this year, pinned all four of his opponents to capture the 160-pound title at Cupertino. His efforts earned him the Outstanding Wrestler honor in the upper weights.

Taylor Oberhelman, another Monta Vista junior, placed fifth in the 171-pound division, one place behind Homestead senior Mark Zosky. Ittai Barzilay, a Homestead senior, took third at 145. Nykolis Ramirez-Baker of the host Pioneers placed fourth in the 189-pound bracket.
