By Mike Barnhart
After moving to a bigger and better facility near the Sunnyvale-Mountain View border, gymnastics teams and cheer squads of Gold Star Gymnastics celebrated with outstanding performances during the recently concluded fall season.

Serena Yee was crowned Queen of Floor at the Level 6 State championship meet after scoring a first-place mark of 9.15 in the floor exercise. She also finished fourth in the all-around competition. Yee had advanced to the event by claiming firsts in floor and all-around at the Zone meet. Level 6 teammates Chelsea Ng and Maureen Lenehan also were Zone medallists, Ng getting sixth on vault and Lenehan seventh on floor.

Five of Gold Star's Level 5 gymnasts qualified through Zone competition and fared well at the state meet. Audrey Wendschlag posted a 9.125 for second place in the vault. Zone bars champion Emma Peatfield earned fourth in state with a 9.275. In the floor exercise, Micha Auzenne (9.125) was seventh and Allie Gamble (9.0) eighth. Kelli Hamachi scored an 8.9 on the balance beam, but did not place. At the Level 5 Zone meet, Camilla Visconti (second), Guiliana Davis (ninth) and Austin Campitelli (10th) all delivered top-10 efforts in floor exercise.

Emilia Mancilla led Gold Star's Level 4 team to third place at the zone meet, taking second on floor with a 9.2 and third on bars with 9.225. Maya Crawford (vault) and Sophia Barton (beam) posted seconds and Krysteena Snyder earned fourths on vault and floor. Amanda Heydari (floor) and Kristina Tea (beam) chipped in with ninths.

Three Gold Star cheer squads were winners at the USA Great America Regional competition. The Junior Prep squad, competing in Level 2, earned the highest score in the entire competition and captured the Grand Champion award. The Senior Cheer team won the Level 3 Overall championship, and the Mini Prep Squad posted the top score in its division.

In the state hip hop dance competition, Gold Star's mini, junior, senior and college squads combined to earn three first-place trophies and one second-place. The Mini Prep Hip Hop girls turned in the most outstanding performance. They received the highest score in the entire competition, earning Grand Champion status and comparison to squads with competitors three times their age.

Gold Star's 5,000-foot facility, filled with new Olympic-style equipment, is located near the intersection of South Whisman Road and East Dana Street. For more information, visit www.goldstargym.com.
