Must be election season again
By Ruby Elbogen
Look who's here. Must be election season
You can always tell it's that time again, when our fellow Americans running for the Cupertino City Council become ubiquitous. They can be spotted at meetings and events they might not otherwise have attended. That's not necessarily a bad thing; one never knows where a prospective supporter might hang out. It also gives the electorate a chance to ask the big questions, about whatever is of major importance.
This election may prove to be more contentious than others. This crop of candidates will have to ante-up about where they really stand on issues, including development, and mean it. Since rumor has it that 50 additional portables will be placed on Cupertino elementary and middle school campuses this summer, housing will be a hot topic.
This election go 'round should be interesting. Get ready for double-talk and triple-speak. Demand promises and do take an active part.
There's Never a Quota at Quota
When Donna Austin, community activist and president of the Cupertino Historical Society, invited members of Quota, a women's service club, to a retreat at her home, it gave members a chance to make plans for the upcoming year in a lovely and relaxing setting. Good food, good wine, good company and good ideas for doing good deeds were the order of the evening. Mary Ann Wallace, Barbara Rogers, Liz Tadman, Lauralee Sorensen, Gail Jensen and Barbara Nunes were a few of the party goers.
Quota meets for lunch the second Thursday of each month at the Blue Pheasant restaurant on Stevens Creek Boulevard.
Cupertino Strike is a hit
A huge crowd of city officials, celebrities and invited Cupertino residents showed up July 19 for the pre-opening gala of STRIKE Cupertino, the city's newest entertainment venue.
Strike , located at the Cupertino Square mall, welcomed bowlers, high-tech video game players, sports bar lovers, and New York transplants craving good pizza. Strike is not an ordinary bowling center. There is something for everyone: young, old and in-between. Expect music, black light bowling,a plethora of games, an experienced staff and a great place to hang out or have a party.
The Cupertino Chamber of Commerce held a mixer there Aug. 8 to welcome its newest member.
