Possible plea bargain for accused teacher

By Cody Kraatz

The Homestead High School teacher arrested in May on suspicion of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old Lynbrook High School student is expected to avoid a trial and start an exchange of plea bargain offers, at an Oct. 10 hearing.

Robb Hunt, 30, faces four felony counts of sexual acts with a minor and one misdemeanor count of child annoyance and was not ready to enter a plea at his Aug. 13 hearing.

"We're still doing some forensic psychology work," said Dan Barton, Hunt's attorney. Barton requested one of three previous postponements to review at least five CDs of interviews with Hunt and the victim conducted by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office that prosecutors had just released.

Erin West, deputy district attorney, said she had recently obtained Hunt's medical records, from prior to his arrest, that are pertinent to the case.

The victim's mother attended a previous hearing, talking to West and Barton about how the investigation and trial could make information about her daughter publicized. She does not want her daughter to testify, said West.

Hunt has declined to comment.
