Alumni association hosting fundraisers
By Erin Hussey
The Fremont High School Alumni Association annually holds three fundraising events to fund scholarships for graduating seniors. The association has been doing it since 1966.
The first of the fundraisers is the sixth annual Harry Holstein Memorial Golf Tournament scheduled Sept. 7 at the Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course. Association officials are looking for more players, alumni and non-alumni. The $85 per-golfer fee includes carts, green fees, snack bags, prizes and a pizza lunch.
Following the tournament, the association will host the 12th Annual Barbecue Reunion on Sept. 8 at Camp Costanoan, near Stevens Creek Dam in Cupertino. Tickets are $25 for chicken or tri-tip, $18 for hamburgers, hot dogs or vegetarian, and $7 for children. The park opens at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
The 49th Annual Dinner and Dance Reunion, open to all Fremont High School alums, will take place at Oct. 13 at the Historic Del Monte Building on S. Murphy Street in downtown Sunnyvale. Registration begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The classes of 1957 and 1982 will be honored for 50 and 25 years, respectively. All classes celebrating increments of five years since graduation will be recognized as well.
To date, the FHSAA has given more than $120,000 in scholarship awards.
"It's very important for the kids to know that someone is thinking about them and their higher education," says Susan Kerrigan Rynearson, FHSAA secretary.
The FHSAA, a non-profit, all volunteer group, was founded in 1958 as a way for alumni, family and friends of Fremont High School to stay connected and foster school spirit.
