Cupertino hair salons unite to battle cancer

By Crystal Lu

Several hair salons in Cupertino and San Jose are currently collecting donations from customers for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in order to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma.

Rose Fancher, owner of Paizley Salon & Spa in Cupertino, initiated the salon fundraising campaign. Fancher had participated twice in the Light the Night Walk, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual fundraising event with white balloons held by survivors and red ones held by supporters at twilight. This year she wanted to do more by encouraging her colleagues to participate.

"I'm excited to work alongside other salons in helping raise money for this important cause," said Fancher.

One of Fancher's regular customers, Margi Boyce, is a special events manager of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

"It's going to take all of us together to find a cure for cancer. We're just thrilled that the salons have stepped up to participate," said Boyce.

Four of the participating salons are in Cupertino. They are Lily Salon & Day Spa at 19656 Stevens Creek Blvd., Paizley Salon & Spa at 10475 S. De Anza Blvd., Phresh Hair at 10118 Bandley Drive and The End Result at 1655 S. De Anza Blvd.

This year's Light the Night Walk in San Jose will take place Oct. 20 at Plaza de Cesar Chavez.
