    Blossom Hill Road closed temporarily

The town will close Blossom Hill Road between Union Avenue and Camino del Cerro between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., from Jan. 2 to Jan. 4. Parks and public works will do brush and debris cleanup, allowing access for emergency vehicles and area residents.

The road will be closed, weather permitting, and detour signs will be up. For more information, call parks and public works at 408.399.5770.

Public hearing set for Sobrato development

On Jan. 9, the Los Gatos Planning Commission will review the Sobrato Development Company's proposal to build a mixed-use development on Winchester Avenue, near Highway 85. The proposal is for a research facility and housing units on a 12.3-acre lot, formerly Maxxim Medical and the A to Z Nursery.

Sobrato's proposal was continued from a Sept. 19 planning commission meeting because of issues caused by the traffic from the development and the assumption that a light rail station would be built nearby. The meeting at the town council chambers at 110 E. Main St. will start at 7:30 p.m.

    Seniors can use cell phones

The Los Gatos Senior Program is looking for old cell phones for seniors to use in emergency situations. As a free service to seniors, used cell phones will be given away, along with an instruction sheet and battery charger. No calling plan is needed to dial 911.

Since October, Senior Coordinator Linda Gallo has given away approximately 25 phones but needs more to continue the program. Those wanting phones or willing to donate phones can call Gallo at 408.354.1514.
