Los Gatos boys take third at Soquel Classic

LG girls third at Holiday Classic

Key, James score goals in LG victory

    By Dick Sparrer

Two goals in two games might not sound like a lot. But it was enough to lift the Los Gatos boys soccer team to a split in a couple of nonleague games against powers from the West Catholic Athletic League last week.

The Wildcats scored two first-half goals in a tight 2-1 win over St. Francis to open the week, then lost a 3-0 decision to unbeaten Bellarmine just before the new year.

Joel Key scored off an assist from Rory Quick to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead against the Lancers. Bobby James added what appeared to be an insurance goal off a Ben Frazier assist later in the half.

The insurance goal turned out to be a game winner, though, when the Lancers scored in the second half. Gatos had the two goals stand up for the win.

Bellarmine scored three goals in the first half on the road to a 3-0 win over the Cats later in the week. The Bells improved to 10-0-1 for the year with the victory.

The loss left Gatos 3-3-3 as the Wildcats prepare to open the league season this week when they return to school from winter break.
