LG girls earn three basketball victories





    Vizzusi goals start Gatos on the road to soccer win

    Sunny Vizzusi knocked in a second-half goal, and that was all the Los Gatos girls soccer team really needed to pull out a victory over Milpitas last week in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

    Vizzusi scored the goal off an assist from Bethany Peterson to break a scoreless tie and give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead over the Trojans. Stacey Penner later scored an insurance goal off an assist from Becky May to lift the Cats to a 2-0 victory.

    Gatos lost a tough 1-0 nod to St. Francis later in the week to slip to 1-2-1 in division play. The Lancers are off to a 4-0 start.

    The Los Gatos boys, meanwhile, stretched their record to 1-0-2 in the De Anza Division with a win and a tie last week.

    Seamus Ryan knocked in two goals, getting assists from Don Hilliker and Matt Hintz, to lift the Wildcats to a 2-0 win over Milpitas. Earlier in the week, the Cats had battled Homestead to a scoreless tie.

    Los Gatos is now 4-3-4 for the year.

    The Leigh boys also posted a win and a tie last week in play in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

    Edison Nazlou buried three goals, Kevin Boucher scored two goals, and Timmy Harris had a goal and an assist to lead Leigh to a convincing 6-1 win over Oak Grove. Pete Pries and Eric Bembry also had assists in the win.

    The Longhorns, 7-2-3 for the year and 2-0-1 in the division, tied Santa Teresa 1-1 later in the week. Garrett Thrasher scored Leigh's lone goal off an assist from Boucher.

    Kassi Doubrava drilled a first-half goal to spark the Leigh girls to a 1-0 win over Prospect.

    The Longhorns, who had battled Santa Teresa to a scoreless tie earlier in the week, improved to 1-0-3 in the Mt. Hamilton Division and to 5-1-4 for the year.
