LG girls earn three basketball victories

    Sports Grants

    The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame announces that applications are available for the organizations 2000 Youth Fund grants. Non-profit youth organizations and schools are eligible to apply for the grants which provide needed sports equipment.

    The deadline for returning completed grant applications is Jan. 31. For more information, call 415.352.8827. Grants will be distributed in the summer of 2000.

    Softball Clinics

    The Olympian School of Softball, headed up by Lisa Mize and Stacy Pierson, will hold softball hitting and pitching clinics in early January.

    The clinics, for players ages 7-18, each meet once a week. For information, call either Mize or Pierson at 408.374.8842 or email osbmize@aol.com.

    Pitching Camp

    A pitching camp for youngsters ages 8-12 will be held Jan. 26-March 8 in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga. Arm care and conditioning, pitching fundamentals and defensive skills will be covered. For more information, call Burch Boehner at 408.615.7957.

    Gym open to 40+

    The small gym at Saratoga High School will be open for basketball for players age 40 and over every Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. The drop-in fee is $3 per night, and new players must show proof of age. For more information, call 408.868.1248.

    Diving Training

    The Santa Clara Divers offer year-round training and competition for divers ages 8 and up interested in springboard and platform diving. For more information, email coachbill@scdivers.com, check the website at www.scdivers.com or call 408.274-9542.
