    Obituaries

    Werner Baracker

    Los Gatos resident Werner Paul Baracker died Nov. 27 at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 84.

    Baracker was a native of Germany, born in August 1917. He was an active member of the Los Gatos and San Jose communities for some 50 years. Part of that was as the founder and longtime owner of Paul's Jewelers. He was also an active member and commissioner with the Los Gatos Arts Commission, a past president of the San Jose Civic Light Opera and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

    Survivors include son Ron Baracker of Eagle Point, Ore.; daughter Sandra Ewen of Modesto; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    Memorial services have been held, with interment at Home of Peace Cemetery.

    Maudie Butler

    Former Los Gatan Maudie L. Hamilton Butler died Dec. 9 of cancer complications in the Yuba/Sutter area. She was 73.

    She was born May 16, 1928, in La Porte, Texas, and moved to California in 1962. She kept busy raising her family of five daughters and five sons. "Mom had a wonderfully contagious sense of humor and could always be counted on for a good laugh," her children recall. "Her smile brightened many a long face: from those she knew, to those she had just met."

    Butler was predeceased by sons Michael and Kenneth Guimarin and granddaughter Joelle Wilhelm. Survivors include daughters Virginia Guimarin, Margaret Wilhelm, Catherine Porter, Bernadette Guimarin and Elizabeth Guimarin; sons Ralph, Robert and David Guimarin; and 13 grandchildren.

    Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

    Paul Chamberlain

    Paul W. Chamberlain died in his Los Gatos home Dec. 10 following a long illness. He was 85.

    Born Oct. 15, 1916, in Michigan, Chamberlain moved to Los Gatos in 1954 and was a partner in the original Stonelite Tile Company of San Jose. Among his many interests were traveling, writing, gardening, cooking and visiting friends in Mexico.

    Chamberlain was preceded in death by brother Norman Chamberlain of Placerville and brother Ted Chamberlain, sister Dorothy Joslyn and brother-in-law Frank Zumbrink, all of Los Gatos. Survivors include brother Newell Chamberlain of San Jose, sister Jane Zumbrink of Los Gatos and several nieces and nephews.

    Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

    John O'Hare

    Monte Sereno resident John O'Hare died Dec. 12 of complications of a stroke he suffered Dec. 5. He was 78.

    Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Fremont, Neb., O'Hare worked as an examiner at the Los Gatos branch of the California Department of Motor Vehicles for 25 years. He was also a member of the Unitarian Fellowship of Los Gatos for 37 years.

    Survivors include wife Patricia O'Hare of Monte Sereno; daughters Michelle and Rita O'Hare; grandchildren Jonathan Ihm and Sharon Wierzba; and sisters Charlotte Tawney and Margaret Hulette.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations can be made to the Unitarian Fellowship of Los Gatos, 15980 Blossom Hill Road, Los Gatos, 95032 or to the American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R St., N.W., Washington, D.C., 20009.
