Boy Scout realizes his dream

Scout earns 25 merit badges plus three religious awards

By Bob Aldrich

When he was 12, Josh Cormier of Los Gatos dreamed of becoming an Eagle Scout before he turned 16. Just four days before his 16th birthday, his dream came true. He became the first Eagle Scout from Troop 578 of South Valley Christian Church.

His hard work is underscored by the fact that he earned 25 merit badges, 11 of which were required for Eagle rank, plus three religious awards for Boy Scouts of his faith. Josh has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and troop guide; he is now senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle project, Cormier chose to make a teachers resource center at his church, Lone Hill. Before his project, the teachers had no source of supplies. He earned money for the teachers to buy needed supplies through garage sales.

He hopes to earn a Scout conservation award called Horn A Day and to become a scoutmaster some day, he said. He lives with his parents, Greg and Debi Cormier.
