LOS GATAN DIES IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

Los Gatos resident Bryan Bowlby, 49, died Jan. 9 following a single vehicle crash at 3:45 p.m. on southbound Highway 17. The accident occurred near Chemeketa Park, at a large bend in the road known as Big Moody.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Bowlby was riding his motorcycle south of Brush Road when he began weaving in and out of traffic lanes. He lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the median strip as he attempted to make a sharp left turn around the bend; the force of the crash overturned the motorcycle. Emergency crews transported Bowlby to Valley Medical Center, San Jose, where he was pronounced dead at 10:19 p.m. that day.

According to the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office, Bowlby died of severe cranial cerebral injuries.

As a result of the accident, traffic was backed up on Highway 17 to state Highway 9 for more than an hour. The CHP reported traffic was flowing normally again by 5:42 p.m.
