Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe ProwlerNow that January is drawing to a close, the Prowler is already looking ahead to February and all the many events with which the short month is packed. Children between 8 and 12 are invited to School Daze, a story-telling/art event Feb. 1, co-sponsored by the Los Gatos- Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation and the Saratoga Recreation Department. From 4 to 6 p.m. at Petroglyph, the ceramics lounge on N. Santa Cruz Ave., a Rec Dept. leader will discuss with kids how different events affect their lives. The youngsters then illustrate events from their lives on salad plates, which Petroglyph fires in its kilns. Cost is $30 for Los Gatos or Saratoga residents, $35 for non-residents. Call 354-8700 for more info! Speaking of classes, mothers and daughters can examine and expand their unique relationship during a one-day workshop through Los Gatos'Rec Dept. on Feb. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. For fees, call the number above. On Feb. 2, the famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerges from his burrow before the prying eyes of hundreds of would-be weather forecasters. In conjunction with this perennial Pennsylvanian observance, the Groundhog Club of Silicon Valley--founded by Saratogan Jack Mallory-- holds its 10th annual Groundhog Party on Feb. 20. The shindig includes traditional Pennsylvania food, drink, music, dancing and camaraderie. For tickets, call 243-1102. Music, dancing and acting abound in the hit musical Gypsy, for which Theatre in the Mountains holds open auditions Feb. 5 and 6 at the Loma Prieta Community Center, 23800 Summit Road. Call 353-9999.
