Former Latvian president to visit
Calvary Church will host a reception
Guntis Ulmanis, the first president of free Latvia after its successful 1989 revolution, comes to Los Gatos on Feb. 6 for a community reception in his honor at Calvary Church.
Ulmanis, who ended his final term as Latvian president in September, will speak about current political, social, economic and spiritual affairs in his home country. The program includes a combined choir of singers from Latvian churches in San Francisco and Oakland.
Calvary Church has a particular interest in Latvia because it has a sister church in Riga, the republic's capital. As part of a humanitarian and religious involvement project last summer, 50 high school-age Calvary members, joined by staff, traveled to Riga to work among the city's poor.
Everyone is welcome to attend the program, which begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Calvary Church, 16330 Los Gatos Blvd. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 408.356.5126.
