Pins not enough for Cats

By Dick Sparrer

Patrick Stone pinned at 130 pounds.

Rohner Segnitz pinned, too, and so did Isac Bum.

But even the three falls couldn't keep the Los Gatos wrestling team from falling in the last dual match of the season in the rugged De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

The Wildcats dropped a 38-28 decision to Wilcox in the final league match. The Cats were to move on from there to the league finals that were contested over the weekend at Saratoga.

Stone, Segnitz and Bum each finished the dual season in impressive fashion--with first-round pins.

Stone pinned with 10 seconds left to wrestle in the first round at 130 pounds, and Segnitz won by fall with eight seconds left in the first round at 152.

Bum capped the day with a quick pin in 1:35 of the first at 275 pounds.

Bobby Nguyen nailed a 13-2 win at 125 pounds for the Wildcats and Dan Barber won 15-9 at 145. Fred Luminoso added a 7-2 win at 171 pounds, but it wasn't enough for the Wildcats.
