Warriors knock Cats out of playoffs

By Dick Sparrer

Brad Griffith was hot.

So was Kris Coughran.

But unfortunately for the Los Gatos boys' basketball team, Westmont's Warriors were just a little hotter in the Central Coast Section Division III semifinals.

The Warriors pulled off a 61-56 come-from-behind win over the Wildcats to advance to the CCS championship game against Palo Alto. Westmont lost to the Vikings 38-28 in the title game.

Los Gatos had already lost twice this year to Palo Alto during the regular season, but the Wildcats would have liked one more shot at the Vikings. The Warriors, it seems, had other ideas. The loss left the Wildcats 20-6 for the year.

Westmont led by a point at the half, but fell back by five after three periods. The Warriors came on strong in the fourth, though, outscoring Los Gatos 22-12 to pull out the hard-earned victory and to earn a spot in the CCS finals.
