Police make arrest for lewd conduct By Michelle Alaimo
Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police on Feb. 15 arrested Aureliano Lopez, 22, of Mountain View for lewd conduct with a person under 14 years of age and for sexual battery. According to Sgt. Michael Barbieri, Lopez was detained and identified following two groping incidents in the area of Santa Cruz Avenue and Elm Street.
In the first incident at 3:30 p.m., a 13-year-old girl was grabbed in the crotch by a man near Town Plaza Park. After grabbing the girl, the assailant left on foot.
Within minutes, a 29-year-old woman was grabbed in the crotch near Elm Street. The description of the suspect in both cases was of a man in his 20s with a heavy build, blue baggy shirt and mustache. Barbieri said the description was radioed out to officers in the area.
At 3:49 p.m., bicycle officer Kevin Elliott spotted Lopez, who matched the description of the suspect police were seeking. Elliott detained Lopez, who was later identified by the victims, according to Barbieri. Lopez was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and is awaiting a hearing.
Barbieri said the investigation is ongoing and that they believe Lopez might be connected to two other incidents within the past year. Barbieri asks anyone with information to call the police department, 354-6825.
