The Fisher Middle School sixth graders won the league championship. It all came down to the final seconds.
The Fisher Middle School sixth grade boys' basketball team had a perfect season and a league championship at stake in the final game of the West Valley Athletic League tournament.
Fisher and Dartmouth were locked in a 22-22 tie heading into the final seconds. And when Fisher scored with 10 seconds remaining, it was all over but the cheering.
Fisher backed up an 11-0 league season with two wins in the tournament to win the West Valley Athletic League championship.
The local hoopsters defeated Campbell, Castro, C.T. English, Dartmouth, Luther Burbank, Monroe, Price, Redwood, Rolling Hill, Rogers and Union during the regular season.
The top four finishers in the regular season advanced to the league tournament. Fisher knocked off Campbell in the first round, and Dartmouth beat Rolling Hills to set up the Fisher-Dartmouth title game.
Fisher pulled out the win and the league championship with the 24-22 victory.
