Several local teenagers performed in the cast of The Will Rogers Follies, a music and dance revue staged in late February and early March at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose.
Bellarmine senior Patrick McMahon portrayed Will Rogers, while fellow senior Omar Pualuan played violin in the band; both are Monte Sereno residents. Patrick's sister Katie, a Castilleja High School sophomore, held a lead dancing role, while Los Gatos High School junior Brooks Broderick of Los Gatos danced and sang in the female ensemble.
As part of "Kids Cooking Month" in February, Los Gatos Union School District students learned during their lunch hours how to make healthy snacks and foods without the use of a stove or oven.
Each week, Marriott Food Service personnel visited a different school; as they demonstrated how to prepare each recipe, students were encouraged to participate and make their own.
The "Kids Cooking Month" program is sponsored by the California Department of Education, Child Nutrition and Food Distribution Division and the Dairy Council of California.
The volunteer-run Art Docents of Los Gatos Inc. wrapped up February with a variety of art education programs geared to each grade level in Los Gatos Union School District schools. The kindergarten program "Horses" taught students how artists show space. In "How's the Weather," first-graders discovered elements of art in nature. Second-graders studied "Portraits" of real subjects, while third-graders received an "Introduction to Non-Objective Art."
"Contemporary Native American Artists" came alive for fourth-graders, and fifth-graders learned about early 20th century art in "The American Scene."
