Chamber mixer at the Elks Club

Networking is the name of the game at the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce's March 16 mixer.

The mixer, hosted by the Elks Club at 105 Newell Ave. in Los Gatos, offers an opportunity for members of the business community to network.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m., and the cost is $5 for Chamber members and $15 for nonmembers. Call 408.354.9300 for more information.

    Town approves Jesuit addition

The Planning Commission approved the California Province of the Society of Jesus' two year-old proposal to add a second story to a secondary building on their property.

The approval required the annexation of a building straddling the town limits, a zone change and a General Plan amendment. The Society dedicated more than a half-acre to open space as part of the application.

The Jesuits, who spend much of their time caring for their aging members, will add a second-story to the old infirmary for additional office space.

Census forms to show up in the mail this month

Households across the country should receive their Census 2000 forms by the end of March, and will have until April 11 to mail them back. Nonresponding households will be contacted directly by a census taker up through July 7.

Completing the forms is important for many reasons, including that census data determines how federal and state money is allocated to local communities. The census provides decision-makers with information to better understand what areas need new roads, schools or hospitals.
