St. Luke's celebrates Bach
On March 21--the 314th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach--St. Luke's Church, 20 University Ave., celebrates with a program of music for organ and trumpet. The concert, which begins at 4 p.m., features professional trumpeter William Harvey, joined on piano by Richard Coulter, St. Luke's organist and choirmaster.
Harvey is a member of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra and is the principal trumpet with Opera San Jose and the Western Opera Theater. A native of Berkeley, Harvey is a graduate of San Francisco State University and Boston University. He has given recitals throughout the Bay Area and the eastern United States; he has also performed in South Africa. Coulter is a graduate of the University of Idaho and the Union Theological Seminary in New York.
The program, which lasts about an hour, includes works by other Baroque composers such as Purcell and Vivaldi as well as some contemporary pieces. The concert is open to the community. There is no charge, but a free-will offering will be received. For more information, call 354-2195.
