    Obituary

    Olivia Davies

Longtime Los Gatos resident Olivia C. Davies died March 1 at Columbia Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 78.

Davies was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Chicago, Ill. but grew up in Palo Alto and Menlo Park. She graduated from Stanford University in 1942 and in 1943 completed Stanford's engineering science and management war training program in industrial management. She worked as an expediter for Joshua Hendy Iron Works and, after the war ended, returned to Stanford to earn a degree from its law school. After working for two years as a clerk with the California State District Court of Appeals, she married Robert M. Davies, a classmate from law school. They moved to Los Gatos and started a law practice in the early 1950s.

In addition to managing the law office, Davies was very active in the community and belonged to many organizations, including the History Club of Los Gatos, the Saratoga Foothill Club, the American Association of University Women and the Junior League of San Jose. She served 20 years on the board of trustees for Good Samaritan Hospital (now Columbia Good Samaritan) and served 37 years on the board of trustees for the Villa Montalvo Center for the Arts in Saratoga.

Survivors include daughter Frances C. Davies; daughter and son-in-law Barbara D. and Douglas W. Thomas; grandson James Thomas; and sisters Mariamne C. Fulton and Nancy J. Cross.

Memorial services will be held March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. Donations may be made to any of the following organizations: Planned Parenthood; the Program Committee at the Cantor Center for the Arts of Stanford University; the Villa Montalvo Artist Residency program; or the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley.
