The Prowler
This week officially begins spring! With trees blooming, birds singing and bees buzzing, it's a beautiful time of year!
Speaking of birds and bees, spring is not a good time for the folks at the nonprofit Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley, who often deal with large numbers of unwanted puppies and kittens conceived during springtime.
Like humans, animals are the most vulnerable and impressionable as babies, so the care they receive early in life is important for their future health and happiness. To that end, the HSSCV seeks loving people to provide foster homes for the pups and kittens coming into the shelter. Foster parents are also needed for pregnant animals. For all the details, call 408.727.3383, ext. 741.
Speaking of animals, this cat is sad to report what many Los Gatans already know: the passing of Choca, the chocolate lab-spaniel mix who greeted customers for five years at the Wild Bird Center in King's Court Shopping Center. She was only 7 when she died earlier this year of cancer.
Freddy Howell, owner of the Wild Bird Center and Choca's "mom," told the Prowler last week that generous folks have already donated $1,200 in Choca's name to the Nike Animal Rescue Foundation, which had connected Howell and Choca to begin with. Check www.narfrescue.org for information.
On to happier news: Taylor Eigsti, the 16-year-old jazz piano prodigy, performs with his Taylor Eigsti Trio from 4 to 8 p.m. at the recently renovated Toll House Hotel & Conference Center at 140 S. Santa Cruz Ave. It's a benefit for the nonprofit Hospice of the Valley. For reservations, call 408.947.1233, ext. 416.
