Tough week for Vikings

J.R. Ziegelmann belted a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to help the West Valley Community College baseball team pull out a tight 7-5 win over Ohlone in the South Division of the Coast Conference.

West Valley trailed 5-4 heading into the ninth before Ziegelmann slapped the game-winner. He finished the day with three hits and was the winning pitcher. Jim Alderete added two hits.

Earlier in the week, the Vikings ran into former Los Gatos star Brian Boulware and lost a 10-6 decision to Mission College. Boulware was the winning pitcher for the Saints, pushing his mound record to 3-2.

Ziegelmann singled and homered for the Vikings and Ray Hutchison singled twice and tripled to drive in two runs. Zorak Abraham added two hits.

West Valley slipped to 5-3 in the Southern Division of the Coast Conference and to 11-10 for the year after a 9-6 loss to Cabrillo last weekend.

Ziegelmann singled and doubled for the Vikes and Ryan Becks had three hits to knock in three runs.

Mallon tosses a no-hitter

Jennifer Mallon tossed a no-hitter to lead the West Valley Community College women's softball team to a 10-0 win over San Francisco City College in a five-inning game last week.

The Vikings supported Mallon with an 18-hit assault. Kimberly Lax slapped four hits to lead the attack. Jennifer Ellinger tripled and singled twice to drive in three runs and Chantie McDonnell had three hits. Kittie Jones and Kristin Fujii had two hits apiece and Christine Sentz doubled home a pair of runs.
