Speaker to celebrate legacy of ancient libraries

Art Docents prepare for Children's Art Show

    The Prowler

Sorry "grown-ups"--the events in this week's column were designed with young people in mind! That's not to say, however, that parents are banned. In fact, parents are welcome to attend both of these.

The nonprofit Youth Science Institute has scheduled a Nature Journal Hike on April 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Los Gatos' Vasona Lake County Park. Led by YSI instructor Jennifer Snedeker, participants will hike through the park and create journals. Snedeker will provide paper and pencils, offer basic drawing techniques and teach observation skills--something that comes naturally to us canny cats!

All ages are welcome; adults must accompany young children. The fee is $5 per person. Alternately, there's an April 1 journal hike that leaves from the YSI's Nature Center at Sanborn-Skyline County Park in Saratoga. The Prowler hears these outings fill fast, so call 408.356.4945 to reserve spots now!

Moving indoors, the sixth annual High School Art Show opens on March 30, at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural Science, 4 Tait Ave., and runs through April 29. The exhibit features the works of art students from Los Gatos and Saratoga high schools. Although it's said there's nothing new under the sun, the Prowler thinks this exhibit disproves that saying! Having seen the art show over several years in the past, this cat never ceases to be surprised and impressed! The Prowler also never ceases to wonder what kind of future awaits these artists, if they're showing such skills already.

An artists' reception takes place on April 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum's regular hours are Wednesday through Sunday, from noon to
