LG tennis team wins three

Wildcats defeat Lancers at swim meet

    Pony Openers

    The Mets, Yankees and Diamondbacks opened the Los Gatos Pony League season with victories last week.

    The Mets knocked off the Giants 12-5. Andrew Silva and Jad Correia each doubled twice and singled for the Mets.

    Brian Wendt had a two-run double and Dan Politi, Gus Winkelman, Jordan Senner, Brett Davis and Wes Piper each singled in the win.

    David Holtzman ripped a triple and singled twice and Jarrett Kasper had two hits for the Giants. Nick Perrone, Nick Guedenet, Logan Schafer and Ken Rodrigues each singled.

    J.P. Grist tossed a three-hitter, striking out eight, to lead the Yankees to a 13-2 win over the A's.

    Jeff Bridges doubled for the Yanks and Grist, Mark Helleboid, Kevin McCarty, Matt Hirakawa and Daniel Searles each singled. Kevin Bakken made an outstanding diving catch in left field.

    Adam Hudson and Matt Martini each tripled for the A's and Russell Laubach singled.

    Kyle Jensen and Patrick McDonald joined forces to toss the Diamondbacks to a tight 5-4 win over the Mariners. A two-run single in the seventh by Nick Gionfriddo gave the Diamondbacks the win.

    Jeremy Bays ripped a two-run homer and McDonald doubled and singled for the D-Backs.

    Youth Football

    Sign-ups for the 2000 Los Gatos Pop Warner football season are now being accepted.

    Pop Warner offers programs for boys and girls ages 7-15. Football teams are grouped according to weight and age, and cheer squads are grouped by age.

    The organization will add a new instructional, non-competitive entry-level division this season for boys ages 7-9 weighing between 45-85 pounds.
