    LGUSD OKs a new contract

    The Los Gatos Union School District and the Los Gatos Elementary Teachers' Association on April 8 approved a negotiated salary and newly structured salary schedule.

    The new contract gives teachers a base increase of 6 percent, with most teachers receiving an additional percentage increase with the new schedule. A first-year teacher's salary was raised to $34,712 from the current $31,260. In addition, teachers holding a master's degree will receive a $2,000 stipend annually compared with the current $836 stipend.

    League looks at Medicare issues

    The public is invited to a discussion on the fate of Medicare and other health insurance issues at the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno-Saratoga League of Women Voters general meeting, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Senior Center, 19655 Allendale Ave., Saratoga.

    Speakers will be Peter Scego of the American Association of Retired Persons and Lorraine Larson of the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program.

    VTA wants input on light-rail plan

    Got something to say about Vasona Corridor Light-Rail Project? VTA wants to hear it.

    The agency will hold public scoping meetings this week to gather input and answer questions on the proposed light-rail line to downtown Campbell and, eventually, Los Gatos.

    Meetings will be held April 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the San Jose Fire Training Center, 255 S. Montgomery Street, and April 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave.
