    School hosts arts festival

    Building Blocks Cooperative Preschool will present its Tapestry and Talent Festival April 27, when students and parents will host a variety of arts and crafts booths, games, live entertainment, a silent auction and raffle, a children's performance and dinner.

    The children's arts and crafts booths will include clay hand printing, tie-dying, beading and painting with watercolors, while local artisans will show their artworks, which include metal sculptures, paintings, jewelry and pottery.

    Building Blocks students will perform a song with a springtime theme and a play about the importance of self-esteem. Parents will host a dinner for the general public afterward.

    The silent auction will include Silver Mountain wine, handmade jewelry, pottery, antique car rides and gift certificates for local shops and restaurants.

    The festival will be held on Saturday,1-5 p.m., at the school, 23845 Summit Rd. Proceeds will benefit the preschool program.

    LGHS grad earns space fellowship

    The Alabama Space Grant Consortium named Enrique Gomez, a Los Gatos High graduate, a NASA Space Grant fellow for the 2002-2003 academic year.

    Gomez, 25, is a Ph.D. student in physics at the University of Alabama. He has an undergraduate degree in physics from UC-Santa Cruz.

    Gomez's $22,000 fellowship grant will support his study of collapsar jet stability and shock evolution in gamma ray burst profiles.

    The awards will be presented on April 26 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.
