LGHS in uproar over possible Heimbichner reassignment

Students walk out of classes to support popular administrator

Word that a popular assistant principal at Los Gatos High School may be reassigned to a classroom position has ignited a storm of protest among students, faculty and some members of the community. Craig Heimbichner has been assistant principal at the school for four years. In January, said Heimbichner, new LGHS principal Trudy McCulloch gave him a negative review when they met for their mid-year oral performance review. He said it was the first negative review he'd had in 12 years of "glowing recommendations." In early March, he received a letter stating that the district was considering reassigning him next year. Last week, in reaction to the news of the possible reassignment, hundreds of students walked out of classes, a handful of parents picketed in front of the school, and many faculty members signed a letter to the board expressing their opposition. Many are concerned that McCulloch's managerial style is creating problems in a school community accustomed to the open, familial atmosphere that marked the previous administration.   More
