LGHS senior plays final CYS concert

The California Youth Symphony, which won first place at the 1994 International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, will perform May 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, and again at the same time May 19 at Flint Center in Cupertino.

Los Gatos High School Symphonic Band bassoonist and CYS member Andy Lowenthal will be playing in his last concert with the symphony before graduating and studying biology at UC-Berkeley.

Highlights of the program are solo performances by outstanding orchestra members. Oboe principal Su-Wen Ueng will play the Oboe Concerto by Bellini, and cello principal Aaron Jang will play the Cello Concerto by Saint-Saens. The Candide Overture by Bernstein and Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky are also on the program.

The CYS consists of 110 musicians between the ages of 12 and 18, from 39 schools in the greater Bay Area. Conductor Leo Eylar serves as music director. Tickets for the May shows are $6 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. For more information, call 415-325-6666.
