Good Sam Trust announces hearings on funding

West Valley residents can tell Good Samaritan Charitable Trust at a May 29 meeting how they think it should spend proceeds from the sale of Good Samaritan Health System.

The public hearing starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Campbell Community Center.

The nonprofit group that sold the health system to Columbia/HCA in January by law must use the profits to promote health in the southern part of the county, either by continuing to operate its own programs or by giving grants to other programs that promote health. The organization expects to grant between $3 million and $4 million each year.

The newly formed Good Samaritan Charitable Trust has scheduled four such hearings for Santa Clara County residents. Anyone who misses the West Valley meeting can attend a June 4 session in downtown San Jose, a June 6 session in Gilroy, or a June 18 session in East San Jose.

Town Council budget sessions continue

The Town Council will take public comment on the 1996-2001 capital improvement program at its May 13 session.

It includes the strategy to repair or repave the town's streets, for which maintenance has been delayed since 1990.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Council Chambers 110 E. Main Street.
