John Handy with Class comes to the Villa Montalvo Carriage House Theatre May 19 at 7 p.m. Handy, a versatile and powerful sax player and jazz composer, has played bebop and beyond with Charlie Mingus and collaborated with everyone from symphony orchestras to Ravi Shankar. Appearing with Handy will be members of Class (from left) Tarika Lewis, Sandi Poindexter and Julie Carter. The three are classically trained violinists whom Handy taught the art of jazz improvisation and harmony. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Villa Montalvo box office, 741-3428. Proceeds support Montalvo's Artist Residency Program, Community Outreach programs and the Gallery at Montalvo.
