It was a tough year for the Los Gatos boys' tennis team.
But for No. 1 singles star Chris Sands? Well, he was just tough.
Sands was a consistent winner in his No. 1 singles spot for the Wildcats, and he proved it when he rolled to the individual title at the league singles tournament.
Sands played his way through the tournament to go head-up with Monta Vista senior star Vijay Sekhon.
Sekhon had led Monta Vista to a perfect record and the league championship in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. But Sands wasn't about to let the Matador star get the singles crown, too.
Sands rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sekhon in the De Anza Division finals to claim the league title and advance to the Central Coast Section tournament.
A few days before beating Sekhon in the finals, Sands had nailed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles in a regular season match against Los Altos.
The Wildcats lost the team decision to the Eagles, though.
