    Another Tree for the Cause

The town of Los Gatos, named a Tree City USA for the 19th consecutive year, celebrated Arbor Day April 30 with tree plantings at Daves Avenue, Blossom Hill, Van Meter and Alta Vista schools. Above, Steve Moore, from the town's tree crew, helps Van Meter students (from left) Chelsea Waite, Emily Smart and Raschel Archambeault plant a young tree. On May 3, a representative from the California Department of Forestry presented a Tree City USA award to Mayor Jan Hutchins at the Town Council meeting. To become eligible for the recognition, a city must meet four standards--have and enforce a tree protection ordinance, have a tree board or department, a comprehensive community forestry program and observe Arbor Day.
