LG victim of Sept. 11 attack buried in Saratoga May 17

    By Gloria I. Wang

Friends and family of Flight 93 victim Mark Bingham recently gathered in Saratoga to bury Bingham's remains.

The private ceremony was held at Madronia Cemetery on May 17 and was attended by relatives and close friends of Bingham.

Bingham, a 1987 Los Gatos High School graduate, was aboard the flight from New York to San Francisco that went down in rural Pennsylvania on Sept. 11. Bingham has been credited with being one of the heroes of the terrorist attacks, along with 1988 Los Gatos High School graduate Todd Beamer.

The Somerset County, Pa., coroner's office released the victims' remains in caskets to their families at the end of February.

Bingham would have turned 32 on May 22. On May 18, his friends hosted a fundraiser for the UC-Berkeley scholarship that was established in his name. The Mark Bingham Leadership Fund will support students who best embody Bingham's interests and personality.
