    Summer sports camps for kids

    By Dick Sparrer

The annual Los Gatos Wildcat Summer Basketball Camp returns to the high school gym in June with sessions scheduled for players ages 7-15.

The camps, under the direction of Los Gatos boys varsity coach Jim Marino, will be held June 17-21 (9 a.m.-noon each day) and June 24-28 (1-4 p.m. each day) for players ages 7-12 and June 17-21 (1-3 p.m. each day) for players ages 13-15.

Camps will emphasize fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play. There will be daily drills and games.

The camps will also feature appearances by guest coaches from throughout the Bay Area.

The cost is $95 for each session for $180 for both sessions in the 7-12 age group and $65 in the 13-15 age division. Each camper receives a T-shirt, and there will be individual competition, gifts and prizes on the final day of each camp.

For more information, call Marino at 408.354.2730, ext. 269.

    Wrestling camps

The 13th annual Camp for Kids hosted by the Wildcat Wrestling Club will return to Los Gatos High School for three sessions this summer.

Sessions will be conducted June 17-21 for beginners to intermediate wrestlers ages 7-12 (no experience or one year of camp experience); June 24-28 for intermediates in grades 6-9 (one or two years of junior high experience); and July 1-5 for advanced wrestlers in grades 8-12 (minimum two years of junior high or one year of high school experience).

Camps run daily 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the high school wrestling room, and the cost is $110 per week ($210 for a two-week registration).

Veteran Los Gatos wrestling coach Scott Downs is the camp director, and former Los Gatos High School varsity coach Jeff Garlick is the head instructor. Toby Corey, the Fisher and C.T. English coach, will also serve on the staff.

For more information, call Downs at 408.354.2730 (ext. 259) or at 408.395.8126.
