Park board is seeing nominees for 22nd Youth Citizen awards
The Los Gatos Youth Park board of directors is accepting nominations for its 22nd annual Youth Citizen of the Year awards, which it presents each October to a small group of local young people.
All nominees are expected to meet one or more of the following criteria: involvement in community service or volunteer work; involvement in projects or clubs at school; high grades in classes; or receipt of other service awards. Nominees are divided into three groups: ages 6-11, 12-14 and 15-19.
Potential youth citizens are nominated by their teachers, clergy, friends or other acquaintances. Along with the October ceremony in their honor at the Los Gatos Youth Park, the teenagers' honors include recognitions from the Los Gatos Town Council, Los Gatos service clubs, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and state legislators.
The teens also receive engraved whistles, provided by the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad; they will blow the whistles to officially start the annual Los Gatos Children's Christmas and Holiday Parade during the first week in December. The day before the parade, they will also be honored at the annual tree lighting ceremony in the Town Plaza.
The deadline for nominations is May 31. For nomination forms or additional information, call Mary Bartlett at 408.354.9934 or email mbart800@hotmail.com.
