Cunneen hosts town hall budget meetings

State Assemblyman Jim Cunneen plans two local meetings with constituents June 1 to discuss the 1997 state budget. The legislature will make spending decisions during the next several weeks.

Cunneen will be at the Saratoga High School auditorium, 20300 Herriman Ave., Saratoga, at 9:30 a.m. At 11 a.m. he will be at the Cambrian School District Office's multi-use room, 4115 Jacksol Dr., San Jose.

Temblor rattles town

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale shook Los Gatos and much of northern California last Tuesday, but no serious effects of the quake were reported in town.

No one called Los Gatos police to report damages or injuries, said Sgt. Tricia Friedrich.

The quake's epicenter was along the Calaveras Fault, about 10 miles east of San Jose.

Open Space District opens website

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District announced the opening of its Web site May 21st.

It contains information for hikers, bikers and equestrians, including trail conditions, district newsletters, hike schedules and trail regulations. Online maps of district parks may be downloaded and printed.

Town Council to finalize budget

Los Gatos' budget decision-making process culminates May 29 when the Town Council decides on funding for its operating budget. Councilmembers will decide how to cut $288,000 from the budget to provide for needed street repairs.

The council will also set fees for town services at that meeting.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Council Chambers, 110 East Main Street.
