Council decides on KCAT's AT&T funds
The council will decide on June 5, what to do with the $95,000 in settlement funds from the town and KCAT's suit against telecommunications giant AT&T.
Two spending options were presented, one using part of the money to wire council chambers for live or taped broadcasting, and the other investing all the money in technology. Both options include some technology upgrades.
George Sampson, station manager for KCAT, said the public response he has received favors televising the meetings. However, several council members questioned the benefits of cameras in council chambers, and would rather see the money invested in modern equipment to train the station's high school volunteers.
