LG loses heartbreaker at CCS volleyball semifinals

    Vikes' Montarbo is conference MVP

    By Dick Sparrer

There were many talented baseball players competing in the Coast Conference this past spring, but none were more talented than Adam Montarbo of West Valley Community College and Bryan Grochol of Cañada.

At least, that's the way the conference coaches saw things when they named the two baseball stars the most valuable players in the two divisions of the Coast Conference.

Montarbo was named the MVP in the conference's Southern Division, topping a list of six West Valley players on the dream team.

Pitcher Javier Andueza, catcher Jo Jo Quinata, infielder Melvin Souza, outfielder Donovan Minero and designated hitter David Dudley were Vikings named to the all-conference squad.

Winning all-conference honors for San Jose City College were pitcher Brad Husted, infielder Ryan Ceriani and outfielder Jeff Warney.

Grochol was selected as the MVP in the Northern Division of the Coast Conference.

De Anza Community College placed a pair of players on the all-conference list, with pitcher Jesse Mena and designated hitter Kevin Searles each winning post-season honors.
