The San Jose Children's Musical Theater is gearing up for its 1996 summer Conservatory of Performing Arts, which welcomes youth ages 6 through 18 to participate in its summer programs.
Students have the opportunity to explore acting, dance, voice, variety acts, stage makeup, technical theater and behind-the-scenes stage and TV secrets. COPA's staff includes Actors' Equity Association members, professional theater group performers, dance and music teachers, models and variety artists.
COPA is divided into three programs to accommodate various age groups and interests: "Junior Talents" introduces 6- to 8-year-olds to performing arts in a fun way; "Rising Stars" lets 9- to 18-year-olds choose from among various performing arts areas; and the new "Mainstage Conservatory" for 13- to 18-year-olds who wish to develop multiple performing skills.
Session I of COPA is held at Presentation High School in San Jose and runs from June 17 to July 9, five days a week, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Session II is held at Saratoga Elementary School and runs from July 15 to Aug. 2. Tuition is $265; a late fee applies after June 5. A 15 percent discount is available to families with more than one child participating. Some scholarships are available.
