Wolff in Hall of Fame

Al Wolff of Los Gatos has been named to the Mission High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Wolff, a football and track and field star at Mission in 1932-35, was honored during the school's 47th induction ceremonies last month in South San Francisco.

Wolff was a star tackle on the Mission football team and later won All-American honors at Santa Clara University. He played on two Sugar Bowl-winning teams for the Broncos in 1936 and '37.

Popejoy sixth

David Popejoy of Los Gatos came through with a heave of 233-7 to finish sixth in the hammer throw at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic track and field meet in Eugene, Ore., last week. The winning mark was 262-0.

Popejoy was a football and track and field star at Bellarmine Prep.

Giannini fires ace

Bill Giannini pulled out a 5-wood and knocked in a hole-in-one on the 200-yard 5th hole at LaRinconada Country Club in Los Gatos recently.

Re/Max Long drive championship

The Pin High Golf Center in San Jose will host the Re/Max North American Long Drive contest on June 8, 10 a.m. Contestants will compete for the right to advance to the district semifinals. For more information, call 934-1111.
