Mountain Art Guild holds annual show

    By Shari Kaplan

Filling the Santa Cruz Mountains with arts, crafts, food and music, the third annual Mountain Art Guild Show takes place June 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Loma Prieta Community Center, 23800 Summit Road in Los Gatos.

The Mountain Art Guild came together in the summer of 1996, when co-founder Lorri Scott placed an ad in the Mountain Network News with the hope of discovering creative kindred spirits who might be interested in forming an artists' group.

The guild has since grown to include dozens of members who work in paints of all types, photography, textiles, stained glass, wood, sculpture and other mediums. The group's first show took place in the summer of 1997. Along with many artists' booths, this year's show also includes a children's art exhibit from the Spectra program used in Santa Cruz County schools, a variety of live musical groups, and food by Nonno's, a local catering service.

As it has in the past, the art show coincides with the Santa Cruz Mountains Vintners' Festival. The Vintners' Association has included information about the show on its self-guided tour maps for festival-goers, and several local mountain wineries will be sampling and selling their wines at the art show.

A portion of art show proceeds benefits programs at Loma Prieta Elementary and C.T. English Middle schools. For more information, call 399-1830 or 354-2202.
