    Chamber plans on briefing, mingling

The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce plans to talk about parking on June 17 and then mingle at one of Silicon Valley's legendary car dealerships.

Billed as a Hot Topics Briefing on downtown parking solutions the first event will take place in the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St. from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The briefing is open to the public and will be immediately followed by the monthly Chamber mixer hosted by Ferrari, Rolls Royce and Bentley at 66 E. Main St. Cost is $10 which helps defray the Chamber's parking efforts.

    Council reduces Courtright fine

On her return visit to the Town Council on May 24, former Assembly candidate Donna Courtright got half of what she wanted--the council agreed to reduce her fine for removing improperly placed campaign signs to half of the original fee of $1,350.

But neither she, nor a contingent of poster-waving supporters, thought the action righted what they contend was a wrong in the first place.

Courtright argued that the town violated its own procedures when staff could not tell her which signs were in violation, and later when staff removed signs, they did not photograph the locations or keep the signs.

Courtright says she is talking to lawyers now about her options.

    Benches available

Shirley Henderson, the town's preeminent booster of downtown beautification, offers a reminder that the Adopt a Bench Program is still in effect.

Donors can specify a bench from the streetscape guidelines. Brass plaques with personalized inscriptions can be affixed to the bench. Call John Iaquinto, 399-5774 for more information.
